A two year project on "Development of competiveness in key non-oil manufacturing sectors of the economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan" has been launched on 20 September, 2017.
The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Project Beneficiary is the Ministry of Economy Republic of Azerbaijan. Project budget is 559, 530 Euros.
Welcoming speeches were provided by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Mr. Niyazi Safarov, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Juris Maklakovs and Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Jeroen Willems as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, Eurochambres, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry etc.
The overall objective of the project is to develop competitiveness in key non-oil manufacturing sectors of the economy of Azerbaijan and to strengthen public/private dialogue (PPD) with the selected sectors of the manufacturing industry.
In order to achieve its objective, the project will focus on 4 key result areas:
- To enable creation and functioning of professional business associations in selected sectors
- To carry out pre-feasibility studies of selected pilot sectors of manufacturing industries
- To propose changes in pertinent legislation to enable the market economy to function more efficiently
- To improve skills among project public and private stakeholders for the development of PPD and good business practices.
The Project will support the Government of Azerbaijan in its effort to diversify and widen the growth base of its national economy that has become even more pertinent in the view of the down-ward stage of cycle in the oil and gas markets.
