Within the framework of the European Union’s (EU) and Easter region economic development project East Invest 2, from 6 to 9 September, incoming food industry trade mission from Azerbaijan, Roadshow Agriculture and Agrifood in Latvia, organized by Latvian biggest association of entrepreneurs – Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) took place. Meeting with Latvian companies took place at Riga Food 2016 exhibition, as well as individually by visiting entrepreneurs.
Trade mission was visited by five Azerbaijani companies representing milk and spice production, meat processing entrepreneurs and sellers of food products, as well as one representative of German-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce.
In course of the event, guests have visited Riga Food 2016 exhibition at the International Exhibition Centre Ķīpsala. Latvian-Azerbaijani agricultural cooperation business forum took place at the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussing opportunities of business with Azerbaijani companies. During presentation about Latvian food industry conducted by Latvian Ministry of Agriculture, representatives of the Food and Veterinary Service (FVS) and the State Revenue Service (SRS) provided information about their requirements to import of food products to Latvia and the European Union. Later, SIA Orkla meeting about opportunities of cooperation between Azerbaijani companies and Latvian producers was conducted in conference hall of AS Laima museum of chocolate. On the last day of mission, participants met Latvian food distributor – SIA Jungents.
Days of incoming trade mission were spent quite tensely, because interest from both Latvian and Azerbaijani companies was relatively keen. Guests showed initiative to meet Latvian companies they have net at the exhibition again at their free time, this time, however, with more specific goals. LCCI members – companies participating in meetings with Azerbaijani companies, already express gratitude for provided opportunity to be involved in the project. Task of the forum – to provide Azerbaijani companies with practical and useful information for starting trade in Latvia – was successfully fulfilled, creating interest for further cross-border cooperation.
