About ATA Carnet

1. What is ATA Carnet?

ATA Carnet is an international customs document for the more convenient temporary importation of goods for exhibitions, professional equipment, commercial samples, and other goods determined by the conventions, into foreign countries.

Merchandise covered by the ATA Carnet: exhibition participants - exhibits, stands, necessary equipment; merchants – commercial samples; symposium participants – documents and equipment, cameramen - equipment and films; TV cameramen – broadcasting equipment; actors - costumes; collectors – paintings; fitters and doctors – professional tools; athletes – sports equipment, etc.

ATA Carnets may not be used for all purpose determined by the Istanbul (ATA and others) conventions in every member state of the ATA Carnet system, as they might not have acceded to the respective convention.

3. Benefits of ATA Carnets.

ATA Carnet helps to temporary import goods into a foreign country for up to 1 year - there are no import duty payments, no warranties have to be submitted, no documents are in a foreign language, documents are drawn up free of charge, no need for a broker, the temporary imported goods may also be sold (by involving the customs office).

ATA Carnet may be used in several countries at once: Latvia – for temporary import and re-importation; target country – for temporary import and conclusion of temporary import; and countries on the way – for transit. The permissible amount of countries to be entered depends on the amount of pages in the Carnet. (The necessary amount of pages is placed in the Carnet following a request of the user).
